This past weekend I was stoked to photograph Mike & Mary’s The Inn at the Old Silk Mill wedding! I knew that they wanted their wedding to be fun, relaxed and the most important thing was for their guests to have a great time. They wanted a big party where they just happened to get married too! I think they accomplished that in spades! Mike & Mary are what I refer to as my comic book couple. In fact we shot their engagement session at their favorite comic book store here in Fredericksburg. They were so much fun to work with that day, I knew they needed very little direction to relax and just be themselves in front of the camera! We were able to get tons of great portraits of them and as always one of my favorite moments was when I told Mike to hold onto his wife for a pose and the reaction to realizing yes she was now his wife. After a very long engagement the day was here and they are now husband and wife!
I was blown away at the details Mike and Mary planned for their big day! One of my favorite elements was their offbeat florals, Mary wanted vegetables in her flowers! Jane Guerin who just happens to be my office neighbor came through with an artichoke infused bouquet for Mary, asparagus boutonniere for Mike and reception centerpieces that included mint and smelled divine! I actually sneaked over earlier last week to check out what Jane was doing for the wedding and the smells of the mint in her office was so yummy!! For guest favors Mike & Mary had comic books for each guest and even picked out a special one for me!! It was an Archie comic!!! Love that they remembered from their engagement session me talking about reading Archie comics whenever we went to the beach.
We are at that point of the year where pretty much everyday has a threat of rain in the afternoon and it was certainly threatening before the ceremony. Thunderclouds were rolling in but they decided to give the outdoor ceremony a shot and it seems like Mary’s good karma was enough to hold the rain at bay! Their ceremony included a super sweet comic book style story of their life journey to each other, a memory box filled with fun things for their 10 year anniversary and simple vows that Mary said with tears streaming down her face. I can picture Mike & Mary at their 10 year anniversary opening that box and reliving the day!
Thank you to Mike & Mary and your wonderful families for trusting me with your big day to capture these memories I hope you will cherish for the rest of your lives! Enjoy some of my favorites of the day and don’t forget to check out the slideshow for even more!
