I’m going to let you in on a little secret…. you can still look cute and stylish in maternity clothes! Not only that but they can be so comfortable you don’t want to give them up! I still fondly remember this cream open front maternity cardigan I had, I only passed it along because I was embarrassed that the tag clearly said maternity lol! I regret giving it away so much now.
Did you know maternity fashion started during the Middle Ages?!?! According to Wikipedia, “The evolution of maternity clothing began during the Middle Ages, and became fashionable as women became more selective about style and comfort in the types of maternity clothing they wore.” I promise this post won’t be a history lesson but I thought that was kind of cool to know!
Most new moms starting needing maternity clothes around the second trimester according to this article on Good Housekeeping. Knowing where to shop is key AND knowing what to shop for! That is why I put together this post to help you shop for maternity clothing in Miami!
SHOP LOCAL – MATERNITY CLOTHING MIAMI
Whenever possible I suggest starting out with local consignment shops. They tend to have pre-owned maternity items that are in great condition. Some even still have the tags on them! Plus when you are done you can consign right back to them and get back some of your cash.
It’s tough finding local shops that carry maternity clothing in person so for me Target was definitely a go to when I was pregnant for Miami maternity clothes. They had everything from cute jeans to tops and dresses to beat the heat. Plus maternity underwear and nursing tanks to keep you comfortable. I still buy the Isabel plain white and black t-shirts because they are nice and long and the material is thick!

SHOP ONLINE BUT STILL LOCAL – MATERNITY GOWNS MIAMI
Saved by the Dress
There are a lot of places to shop online for maternity clothes but what I love about this one is that they are based in Miami, FL so you can shop online but still support a local business. I consider that a WIN-WIN! They have a great selection of maternity clothes including dresses for date night, sweaters for chilly winter nights and plenty of comfy t-shirts to get you through your pregnancy. Be sure to also check out the Maxi dress section for great maternity photo shoot dresses.
Plus they have super cute non maternity clothes for after baby is born when you really just want to feel like your old self!

DD Maternity Gowns
This local little online shop caters specifically to moms needing to rent a dress for their Miami maternity photography or a special event session. They operate by appointment only but you can browse their catalog of dresses online. They have a wide assortment but a few that caught my eye style wise were Alenia, Yoania, Angie, Natalia, Vivian and Kaylee. All of these styles lend more towards classic and I recommend picking a pastel color if you are wanting my style of light and airy. I love that you can rent the perfect gown from them and not worry about buying something you might not wear again. Plus being local and making an appointment I’m betting you can try on a few different dresses to see what works best!

When you are looking for a basic item for your closet that is classic and well made Gap is the place to go. From t-shirts and tank tops to jeans and active wear they’ve got you covered. I definitely recommend looking at your favorite items in your current wardrobe and see if you can find maternity versions. To me that was jeans, a striped boat style shirt, comfy t-shirts and shorts.

It’s always nice when you can still shop your favorite stores for pregnancy clothing too! If you love Loft’s style for your regular wardrobe then I think you’ll be really happy with their maternity line. It’s only online but hopefully the sizes will be true to what you are used to and if not you can use their 30 day return policy to get the right size for you. Plus Loft always has great sales so you can stock your closet and save! This can be great if you need to dress up for work because the Loft is usually very work wear friendly.

I really wish I had known they did maternity the last time I was pregnant I would have totally tried them out! If you don’t know what StitchFix is it’s an online service that picks out clothes for you and ships them to your door. So it’s a surprise when you open the box to see if your stylist nailed your look! I’ve had hits and misses with this but it’s definitely fun wondering what they’ve picked. You pay a $20 styling fee and then if you like what you get you pay for it then, if you don’t like something or anything you can send it back. The styling fee is credited to your purchase if you do like the items.

Rent the Runway
I still think the entire idea behind this company is genius! As someone who used to attend military balls every year I have a closet full of formal dresses that I’ve worn 2x. (Yes I do try to re-wear something several years later if it still fits!) So the idea of renting something that is high quality and designer sounds awesome. I love that they have a maternity section too because it’s perfect for any formal events or weddings and of course your photo session. One of my past clients wore a gorgeous wrap dress from RTR and it wasn’t even maternity but because it was a wrap it fit her bump perfectly!
